After High School-
So after high school, I decided that I wanted to attend college. I wouldn't have been hired for this position if I didn't work hard and get that paper they call a diploma. Anyways, I'm getting ahead of myself. I decided that I wanted to go to Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin. Because I was able to graduate from high school early, I figured that this would be a great transitional institution because it was only 72 miles away from home. FYI-I originally wanted to go to school at John Cabot University in Rome, Italy. Well, I loved Edgewood so much I stayed for my undergrad, and I am currently pursuing my graduate degree from there.
Edgewood College
Madison is the capital of the State of Wisconsin. As of July 1, 2015, Madison's estimated population of 248,951 made it the second largest city in Wisconsin, after Milwaukee (my home), and the 84th in the United States. Madison is considered one of the greenest cities in the nation and is home of the Badgers, the mascot of University of Wisconsin- Madison. The badger is the state animal.
Edgewood College is a private, co-educational liberal arts college in the Dominican Catholic tradition in Madison, Wisconsin. Overlooking the shores of Like Wingra, it occupies 55 acres (22 ha) on Madison's near west side. The college has an undergraduate liberal arts curriculum, with nursing, educational and business tracks, art therapy program, and refresher courses for IT professionals. Master's programs in business, education, nursing, marriage and family therapy, and sustainability leadership are offered as are two doctoral programs, an Ed.D. in educational leadership and a doctor of nursing practice (DNP) in leadership. Total attendance is about 2,500. The colors are red, black and white, almost like SOU. It's like it was meant to be.
Like many of you, I was highly involved during my undergrad. I was over-involved and could be seen everywhere across campus. I was even nicknamed “Mr. Edgewood,” because if there were something that anyone wanted to know, I would have the answer to the question. I knew from early on that I loved working in higher ed and wanted to make sure that I had exposure to everything that I could. I had amazing mentors and administrative staff that provided me with challenges and great opportunities to gain much-needed experience to be a professional within higher education.
This is my original Edgewood Family! We have gone through SOME things together. We were there to love, support and struggle through the college as on unit. The lady in orange, the Ms. Pearl Leonard-Rock (P-ROCK), can easily be named the most influential woman in my life, besides my mother of course. We know she has made and impact when doing what we call “Pearlisms.” She is the BOMB.com. Love her! She is one of the main reasons I got into higher education. This picture was taken in the Center for Diversity and Inclusion. We referred to it as “The CDI”. It was like SOU’s Multicultural Resource Center.
While at Edgewood College I worked as a:
- Student worker in the Diversity Center
- Student worker for the Campus Assistance Center
- Student Worker for Facilities
- Student Worker for the School of Integrative Studies
- Resident Assistant
- Conference Resident Assistant
I loved being a Resident Assistant. I think that this was one of the most rewarding positions that I have ever held. It has definitely prepared me for this position as an Area Coordinator. My residents and I had “mad fun.” I was the Resident Assistant for one of our traditional co-ed residence halls, Marshall. I was the oldest building on campus but, it was truly a hidden gem. When I moved in there my second year, I knew I wanted to room there for the rest of the time at Edgewood, and so I did. Here are some of our great times together.

While at Edgewood I was...:
Student Government- I started my first year as an At- Large Representative and later as the Vice President of Internal Affairs. I think I rocked the position. It kept me super busy, but I absolutely loved it.
AmeriCorps Bonner Leader- The mission of the Bonner Leader program is to transform the lives of students, the life of their campuses, their local communities, and the world through service and leadership. The Bonner Leader program provides a scholarship to students who are committed to community service and learning about social issues and social change. Students selected for this program spend two years working with a team of other Edgewood College students on specific community service initiatives and meet regularly as a group to learn about social justice issues, community leadership, and civic engagement.
