My Formal Introduction

FORMAL GREETINGS
Hello Everyone,

My name is Xavier Karjohn, and I am the new Residential Life Coordinator here at Colorado College.  I will be in charge of managing the areas of Western Ridge Apartments and Language Houses.  I have a professional background in business (oil industry), consulting, mental health counseling (group homes) and higher education. My experience in higher education consists of working in Student Affairs in Residence Life, Conferences, Facilities, and Multicultural Affairs.

I moved here from Southern Oregon University in Ashland, OR. where I was an Area Coordinator. I was born and spent most of my life in the largest city in Wisconsin, Milwaukee. I also spent a lot of my life in Jamaica, where my family orginated from. Being an American and growing up in Jamaica (the island, not the city in New York), I have developed a passion for working with diverse student populations. Multicultural education is an important aspect that I see often lacking in most housing departments. I find great pleasure in creating equitable spaces and assisting in helping others become their best selves. In my spare time, I love doing anything in the water. Kayaking and whitewater rafting are some of my favorite sports. It makes sense since I left Jamaica, as a child, to move to Milwaukee.

I see a bright future here are at CC, and I intend to promote a positive student experience, by ensuring that the needs of each student are addressed equitably while assisting in co-creating residence halls that are conducive for all students to be successful.

I come to Colorado College with the unique international perspective of living on the Caribbean island of Jamaica. I intend to utilize my international and other various professional development experiences. I hope to invoke a positive student experience at CC, by ensuring that the needs of each student are addressed equitably. I plan to assist in co-creating a community that is conducive for all students to be successful.

I look forward to meeting and working with all of you during training, and during the academic year. Stop by and visit my office in the Western Ridge Office beside The Preserve.

Cheers to an awesome remainder of the summer and a new school year!

See you soon!!!

Xavier D. Karjohn
