The Jamaican side of Me
While I was not born in Jamaica, people claim that I am Jamaican, because I know more about the country and culture than most Jamaican-born Americans. People who have known be for years still think I was born there. I often have to correct them. I was actually born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
My mother's side of the family comes from Montego Bay (upper left), and my father's side of the family comes from Kingston (lower right) in the photo below. Kingston is the capital city of the country.

Jamaica in the Olympics-
In case you missed it the fastest man (Usain Bolt) and woman (Elaine Thompson) in the world are both from Jamaica. I have included the videos of both of them winning the Gold medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Fun fact: Just so you know, the colors of Jamaica are green, gold and black.
It is often mixed up with red, green and gold which are Rastafari colors.
Also, just because someone has dreads, it doesn't mean that they are a Rasta or "Rass" as we call them in Jamaica.
Rastafari is an Abrahamic belief which developed in Jamaica in the 1930s, following the coronation of Haile Selassie I as Emperor of Ethiopia in 1930. Its adherents worship him in much the same way as Jesus in his Second Advent, or as God the Son.
I have a long, rich history in Jamaica. Usually, if I’m not home, I would be found on this beautiful island. I spend it enjoying good times with my family and just embracing the culture. I try to spend as much time as I can enjoying the water. It doesn't always happen, but I try to take a moment and get in the water.
Sometimes in the most unflattering way! Take a look for yourself...
